Replacing the transformers at the plant

ACTOM Power Transformers supplied 45 MVA 18/11.5 kV power transformers to Eskom Generation at Kriel Power Station in Mpumalanga. The project involved replacing older 35 MVA units with higher-capacity models, engineered to fit space-restricted substation layouts. Despite strict height and length constraints, APT successfully delivered and installed a custom-built transformer that enhanced the station’s generation efficiency and grid reliability.

For Eskom Transmission, ACTOM Power Transformers designed and manufactured a 250 MVA 220/132/22 kV auto transformer for the Groeipunt Main Transmission Substation in Springbok. This Class 2 transformer, delivered via CONCO, connects the Kangas Wind Farm to the Eskom grid, strengthening renewable-energy integration in the Northern Cape. The project showcases APT’s capability in large-scale grid connection and high-voltage power-transmission solutions.
